I wrote this article for FinerMinds and it seems to have struck a chord with the readers.

Do you watch the news? Does it empower you or do you feel a knot of hopelessness?

  1. Well this caught my attention as I haven’t watched tv in about 7 yrs or read a newspaper in 10 yrs.
I simply felt the reality being presented by the news overlooked what is good in people. After all, do I really NEED to know that some fellow in Rhode Island shot 5 people, while the excellence in those who don’t make the news is overlooked.
There is enough cruelty & ignorance in everyday life to deal with without one seeking more in the public media to darken ones outlook.

    • Henry, the other day I was reading an article from a Globe and Mail reporter. He expressed his own disappointment at reporting standards. He said how for the first time in documented history less than 4% of the world is at conflict (down from 15% twenty years ago and 50% seventy years ago) and yet you wouldn’t know it given the amount of attention violent deaths got in the media.

There is so much to celebrate about the human spirit, so much to educate others by showing what is possible and commissioning the higher nature of oneself, but sadly so much of the world has been drugged by sensationalism and fear.

      • PS – my mom cut out the article for me as i don’t read the newspaper either ;-)
