When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves
- Victor Frankl
What if everything is being done FOR you instead of TO you?
Does that shift in perception change anything?
Does it change EVERYTHING?
We all know people and organizations who, given the same set of circumstances either crumble or thrive.
What is the difference?
Those that thrive are agile and responsive. They embody the Chinese symbol for “danger” which is represented by two seemingly paradoxical characters – crisis and opportunity.
The paradox is always in play.
We choose HOW we want to play.
This is true in life and in business.
Life is going to throw you curve balls. That is what life is supposed to do.
Otherwise, what’s the fun?
Without challenges to help strengthen us, atrophy sets in and the exhilaration of living fades.
Our job is to learn how to ride the waves, go with the flow of the current, and in that, find new opportunities and experiences to enhance our living.
As a ‘suddenly single’ mom of three young children, I learned first hand how to surf the waves of uncertainty and realized that if I became a better surfer rather than trying to control the water, I was stronger, more creative, more resourceful and much more ‘in joy’.
Freedom is knowing that we are not our circumstance and we can create anew at any time.
How are you acting in your “circumstance”?
What is the learning or opportunity with the situation at hand?
Job Loss, Divorce, Illness, Recession… these are not unique occurrences and, in truth, they are not particularly interesting.
These things are called Life.
Life is just doing her thing. Offering us experiences so we can discover who we really are.
Now THAT is the interesting part.
